Attention Business Owners:
On November 5, 2024, voters adopted Measure BE (Business License Tax) which updated the structure of the City’s business license tax to be based on a business’s gross receipts. The measure was adopted based upon a 70.46% voter approval.
Measure BE became effective Janaury 1, 2025, The table below can be used by businesses to determine their business license tax for 2025.

Your renewal grace period has been extended to March 31, 2025, to pay without any penalties.

Starting a business in Monterey Park is a simple two-step process:
(1) submit and complete a Zoning Clearance for New Business Application with the Community Development Department (which may include Fire and Health Department inspections), and
(2) submit and complete a Business License Application. Failure to comply with any City regulation violates the Monterey Park Municipal Code, which may result in adverse action, including, without limitation, fines and penalties.
All persons seeking to start a new business in the City of Monterey Park are strongly encouraged to speak with the Planning Department before beginning any operations, including signing lease agreements.
