About the Department
The Community Development Department maintains the city's physical environment through the effective and efficient use of the city's legislative mandates, including maintaining the General Plan, zoning, building, and property maintenance codes, which provide a solid foundation for an excellent quality of life for the residents of Monterey Park.

Department Responsibilities
This Department is also responsible for providing services that promote the community's short and long term development interests in maintaining Monterey Park's traditionally high standards of development in residential, commercial, and industrial areas, as well as providing staff assistance to the Design Review Board, Planning Commission and City Council.
