[ARCHIVED] New Changes to Spirit Bus Routes Coming August 1, 2025

MPK News Release-New Changes to Spirit Bus Routes Coming 8-1-25 SOCIAL

The City of Monterey Park will implement changes to the Spirit Bus routes beginning August 1, 2025, as part of the City’s continued efforts to improve transit efficiency, enhance reliability, and better serve the community.

Following a recent evaluation of the Spirit Bus system, the upcoming changes will make routes more direct and provide improved connections to key areas in Monterey Park.

Summary of Route Changes:

  • Routes 1 & 2 will shift from one-way loops to more direct, two-way routes along Atlantic Blvd. and Garfield Ave., with no change to stops or service areas.
  • Route 3 will no longer serve the area of Graves Ave. to Garvey Ranch.
  • Route 4 will be discontinued, with coverage provided through MPK Transit Express.
  • Route 5 will connect to the Metro E Line Station at Atlantic Blvd. and Pomona Blvd. Service east of Atlantic Blvd. and Riggin St. will be eliminated, with MPK Transit Express providing coverage for Riggin and the Monterey Park Marketplace.

MPK Transit Express, powered by Via, is the City’s on-demand rideshare service that works alongside the Spirit Bus. It helps fill in gaps where the bus doesn’t go, offers flexible pick-up and drop-off spots, and runs during extended hours. It’s a great option for getting around town, especially for seniors, students, or anyone who needs a more convenient way to travel around the City.

The updated Spirit Bus map and schedule are now available at www.montereypark.ca.gov/spiritbus, City Hall, Langley Senior Center, and on-board Spirit Bus vehicles. Riders are encouraged to review the new routes in advance to plan their trips accordingly.
