The Public Works Department’s Maintenance Services and Engineering divisions work together as a team to maintain the city’s streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, and gutters. The Maintenance Services Division is responsible for conducting routine maintenance activities ranging from patching potholes and repairing damaged sidewalk to overseeing the city’s street sweeping contract and preparing the city’s roads for the annual slurry seal program that repairs the asphalt streets.
The Engineering Division is responsible for the design and overseeing the construction of road reconstruction / paving projects and of new sidewalk and gutter. For current projects, please go to Construction Updates.
CalRecycle
The City of Monterey Park is a recipient of grant funding from CalRecycle’s Rubberized Asphalt and Concrete Grant Program. For 2019-2020, 25,390 used tires were diverted from California landfills through the repaving of the streets with rubberized asphalt.
