Multi-Family Residential/Apartment Inspections
Program Overview:
The City of Monterey Park conducts annual inspections of multi-family residential properties with three or more units, as required by the California State Fire Marshal. These inspections are a vital component of ensuring ongoing compliance with fire and life safety standards. By proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards, the program helps reduce risk and protect the health and safety of residents.
Administered by the Code Compliance Division of the Monterey Park Fire Department, this program reflects both state-level compliance requirements and the City's broader commitment to providing excellent service and supporting safe, well maintained housing across all neighborhoods. In addition to advancing public safety, these efforts contribute to the long term quality and residential stability of the city's housing stock, supporting community goals that prioritize safe, inclusive, and vibrant living environments for individuals and families at every stage of life.

Annual Self Certification Requirement:
As part of the City’s Multi-Family Residential Inspection Program, multi-family residential properties with three or more units, as required by the California State Fire Marshal, are required to complete an Annual Self Certification Form to verify continued compliance with fire and life safety standards. This form must be completed and submitted each year by the property owner or manager as part of the city's ongoing safety and compliance efforts.
Completing the Self Certification Form demonstrates that essential fire safety components such as smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers, and exit signage are present and properly maintained. This process supports the City’s broader commitment to public safety, responsible property management, and ensuring that housing remains safe and well maintained in all neighborhoods.
