Saturday, February 24, 2024

Join us for a lively discussion exploring Asian American communities and culture!

Our panel of acclaimed authors will talk about a wide range of topics including Chinese restaurant culture, Asian American representation in film and television, the 1992 LA uprisings - and, of course, their books!

Featuring:

  • Curtis Chin, author of Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant
  • Jeff Yang, author of The Golden Screen: The Movies That Made Asian America.
  • Paula Yoo, author of Rising from The Ashes: Los Angeles, 1992. Edward Jae Song Lee, Latasha Harlins, Rodney King, and a City on Fire (May 2024) and From a Whisper to a Rallying Cry: The Killing of Vincent Chin and the Trial That Galvanized the Asian American Movement.
  • Dr. Juily Phun (moderator), Assistant Professor of Asian/Asian American Studies at Cal State LA.

Mayor Thomas Wong and Assembly Member Mike Fong will speak briefly at the start of the event. Books by the authors will be available for sale and signing.
