Monterey Park City Council Reacts to Allen, Texas Mall Shootings

News Release graphic image

The Monterey Park City Council is saddened and troubled by another heinous act of gun violence on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at an outdoor mall in Allen, Texas.

The City Council’s thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the families of the eight adults and children killed, the seven wounded, and the Allen community. Two families are suffering the losses of multiple members. Most of the victims have been identified as Asian American or people of color, according to sources.

The Monterey Park City Council vigorously believes that all residents deserve to be safe from gun violence and supports common sense gun safety legislation such as bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, universal background checks, and red flag laws. The Council strongly encourages our local, state and federal representatives to act on these issues.
